We came, we tasted, we found our new female founded beer brand!
Kate here! I learned about Talea back in April and as the first female owned brewery and taproom in New York City, we were immediately interested in learning more about them. Both of their founders Tara and LeAnn left their corporate jobs, took their years of professional skills and passion for beer, and decided to open Talea in March 2021 in Williamsburg.
Seeing women like the two of them is incredibly inspiring to me because they not only left something stable where they were both successful, but chose to enter a space that dominated by men. They had been to a lot of breweries but none of them ever spoke to their aesthetic or met their beer desires…. so they decided to make their dream brewery.
One of their goals in building Talea (pronounced tah-ley-uh and is a combination of their names) was to create a space that leaned more feminine — from the interior design, to the branding, to the bright colorful beers. They wanted to make a space that was multifaceted — where people could drink coffee in the morning, work in the day, and transition to happy hour. They did all those things and more, and I can say after going several times and experiencing it for myself, I knew I wanted to partner with this dynamic duo for a beer tasting and conversation around female entrepreneurship.
Each received a welcome pour upon arrival. We mingled and grazed cheese boards prepared by Dinner Party (one of our favorite female owned restaurants in Fort Greene). Then everyone took a seat in front of a beer flight and for the next half hour, Tara and LeAnn shared their story and answered questions, all while walking us through each beer — its notes, origin, inspiration, etc. It always feels so special to me when you get such an intimate conversation with owners of a business, knowing how busy they are. After they spoke, we all spent time answering intentional conversation questions that were placed down the tables, geared to connect us and celebrate women who dare to pursue their dreams.
It was such a great event and we look forward to visit Talea over and over again! Cheers.
